Vision Statement

Patient Centered Cardiovascular Care in the Greater Lehigh Valley.

Mission Statement

To provide and grow exemplary cardiovascular care with unparalleled service, communication, and accessibility.

The Heart Care Group specializes in the treatment of:

Angina (chest pain)
Angina is chest discomfort that occurs when there is a decreased blood oxygen supply to an area of the heart muscle. Commonly, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis.

View the Get Tough on Angina brochure.

Arteriosclerosis is hardening and thickening of the walls of the arteries. Arteriosclerosis can occur because of fatty deposits (cholesterol) on the inner lining of arteries or thickening of the muscular wall of the arteries from chronically high blood pressure.

Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter
Atrial Fibrillation is when the normal rhythmical contractions of the cardiac atria (upper chambers) are replaced by rapid irregular twitching of the muscular wall that cause the ventricles (lower chambers) to respond irregularly. It is a disorder of the heart beat associated with a higher risk of stroke. In this disorder, the upper chambers (atria) of the heart do not completely empty when the heart beats, which can allow blood clots to form. Treatment is cardioversion, medications or ablation.

Carotid Artery Disease
Carotid Artery Disease is a narrowing or blockage of the arteries and vessels that provide oxygen and nutrients to the brain. It is caused by atherosclerosis. When the blood flow is completely cut off, the result can be a stroke.

Congestive Heart Failure

Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary Artery Disease is a narrowing or blockage of the arteries and vessels that provide oxygen and nutrients to the heart. It is caused by Atherosclerosis. When the blood flow is completely cut off, the result is a heart attack or myocardial infarction.

Dizziness and Fainting
Many things can cause dizziness and fainting. Our trained practitioners can rule out a cardiovascular cause such as a rhythm disorder, coronary artery blockage or medication side effect.

Edema (swelling of the legs)
Edema is the accumulation of fluid under the skin. Some of the causes is peripheral vascular disease, a high salt intake, side effect to medications and heart failure. Medication, support stockings and Venifit (www.venefitprocedure.com) are possible treatment options.

Heart Rhythm Disorders (Dysrhythmias)
A heart rhythm disorder, dysrhythmia is an abnormal cardiac rhythm. There are many types; treatment depends on rhythm. Examples include: sinus arrhythmia, premature ventricular contractions, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, sinus tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and sinus bradycardia.

Heart Valve Disease
Heart valves allow for one way flow of blood through the heart. If the valves do not work properly, blood does not move forward through the heart into circulation. There are 4 valves; pulmonic, tricuspid, aortic and mitral. Stenosis is when the valve doesn't open all the way. Regurgitation is when a valve does not close tight enough. Symptoms of valvular disease include: fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness and edema.
